Cathy and Family, I send you my love and prayerful condolences as you grieve the loss of a wonderful mother. Belle was truly a very special lady, gentle, loving and generous in the giving of herself. She was a wonderful teacher and friend and I know she now enjoys the blessings of a life well lived! I can see the light in her eyes and her gentle smile as she heard her welcome into eternal life: "Come good and faithful servant"! May her legacy of faith and service and your special memories of so loving a mother bring you peace and consolation in the days ahead. God bless you! Sister Rosalie

Cathy, Eddy and family; very sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. Whatever the circumstances it is never easy to lose a parent especially when the roles reverse and you are the caregiver. You can be very proud of the care that you ensured for your Mom. When I think of Belle I always remember the little chats we would have in the back of the church. She was so giving and I was always amazed at the care and patience she provided to ensuring the altar arrangement was perfect whether for a funeral or to make someone’s wedding day that much more perfect. I remember dropping of my flowers to Belle for my wedding and her telling me not to worry about a thing as she would have it perfect. She was instrumental in bringing the children back to serve as altar servers in our Parish; her and Father Clem. She was so nice to young and old alike. I especially remember one chat we had where she talked about her children and how proud she was of you and your many accomplishments. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Cherish your memories. RIP Belle

Dear Cathy Ann and family - my condolences to you and your family on your mother's passing. The last time I visited your mom while I was working at Holyrood office, I said to myself upon leaving your house, "Well there is no better care than what your mom has received from you and the home support workers." It is fair to say that you pulled out all the stops in providing care to your mom and ensuring her qulaity of life. Unfortunately dementia is robbing alot of us of our family member's complete "presence". It takes alot of strength to be comforting and help maintain their dignity. I am sure you will take comfort in that, as you should. Daphne Robinson RN
Deepest condolences. Rest easy Aunt Belle.
The first time I met your mom I was on my flight from TO to Thunderbay. It was a late night flight and this soft spoken woman was talking to her son who was so kind and patiently explaining things to her repeatedly. I could not wait to seethis gentleman who was so kind to her mom. As soon as the plane stopped I looked back and I was met by your mom’s smile and your gentle brother. Their exchange had made such a huge impression on me. I had never heard or seen such love and kindness before. Two weeks later I was introduced to you in Sioux lookout and there I got to meet this beautiful old lady again. And again her smile and demenor were so compelling, it was hard to believe that she was suffering from dementia. Then I got to know the whole story of how you and your brother take turns to take care of your mom. Later you told me of your decision to go live with your mom in her house. You put your whole career on hold and you told me your mom is very important to you and to spend the remaining years of her life with her in her house. And yes you took the bold step without looking back. And through out the years we have seen how you took care of your mom . How you continued to seek ways to make her life better and matter. You tought us that even though your mom’s memory is failing, it is possible to continue to love, to care and to recognize that there is still a beautiful person behind the failing memory. You and your family defined love and true caring and kindness that will continue to live on in our memories. In this difficult time of her passing, may the love that you have shared with her give you strength. May her soul Rest In Peace. May sincere condolence to you and your family. Love and grace Christna.
To Bell's children and all her family, please accept our sincere condolence on her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.May she RIP.

Eddy and Cathy Ann I hope you are doing okay. I know your Mom has been sick for so long but it is still very sad to lose a parent no matter at what age or circumstances. Your mother was such a great caring person. I remember all the support she gave to our family over the years. I also have fond memories of her teaching me in junior high. She was always so pleasant and kind but knew how to control a classroom when necessary. I am sorry I will not be able to visit with you over the next few days to celebrate your mom’s life. My thoughts are with both of you and your families. Denise
Dear Eddy, Cathy Ann, and all other family to Belle, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Belle. Others have talked about her faith, and her caring and soft-spoken nature, but I also remember she had a great sense of humour, which probably explained why I will always remember her with a smile on her face. We were all blessed to have known her.
Dear Family of Belle, I honour the memory of Belle, a true Christian woman who spread kindness wherever she went. May your good memories sustain you in the lonely days ahead. I am sorry I am out of town and un@ble to be present at the Wake and Mass of Christian Burial.

Eddy, Cathy Ann, Madeline, Ester and all extended families, we offer our sincere condolences on the passing of Belle. She was a beautiful person to know, so gentle, always had a smile on her face. RIP Belle, fly high with the angels!

Belle, You are a woman of true inspiration of what it is to be full of love, laughter, courage and hope. It was an honor to meet you through giving you reflexology and it was amazing to become a close friend of your daughter and family. Spending time with you, I always left with a beautiful memory made; whether that be you yelling at me for making a mess while sharing supper with you or your big beautiful bright smile telling me that I was gorgeous. My daughters were lucky enough to take lots of naps with you and your grandchildren and my girls became the best of friends. Being a part of your life the last couple of years have been nothing short of inspiring. In your honor, I studied Healing Touch as I wanted to be able to share more healing with you. Thank you for that support :) Warm Smiles, Your Friend, Lindsay

When I read this obituary I was rather saddened, [not because Belle has passed away as I know she in a much happier home which was her life-long goal.] I have often thought about the lonely life of Shawawdithit, the last of the Beothuks of Newfoundland. How sad it must have been knowing she was the last of her people. With Belle's passing we have lost a person who ranks among the one-of- a-kind women of Newfoundland. Born into an era of great difficulty, suffering and hard-ship in her homeland. But abundantly rich with faith which was crucial in surviving those harsh days. This was a sure combination for her heart to be molded in virtue, as Jesus desired that she grow and develop with a heart akin to that of the Blessed Virgin Mary from whom she received the name Marie. Love of God and hard times did much in breeding compassion and community in their hearts She was a truly giving person, full of patience, always desirous to give her best to God. EDDY, CATHY ANN, PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT IN GIVING YOUR MOM BACK TO GOD YOU HAVE IMITATED HER IN GIVING NOTHING BUT HER BEST TO GOD, WITH SUCH THOUGHTS AS THESE I SEND YOU AND YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS MY PRAYERFUL SYMPATHY. FROM MY FIRST MEETING HER SHE CAPTURED MY HEART & NEVER LEFT IT. I want to share a personal story involving Belle. In 1999 when having my first back surgery, there was a day when I was having a great struggle to stay awake to pray. So I turned to my dear friend , Therese, the Little Flower and asked. Theresa I dearly want to pray, but I can't now. Will you please do my praying for me. No sooner said than done I felt a great peace & thanked her as I fell into a deep sleep. That evening Belle make her only visit carrying a gift [a yellow rose]. She said I think St Theresa wants you to have this rose. To me Belle was always an angel I regret being so wordy but I could go on longer in sending my condolences. Please do not be sad, You have gained a beautiful heavenly mother who will remain with you eternally.

To all the family (especially Harriet) My memories of Bella are all pleasant. I remember her smile and her readiness to help when I needed her. Bella has joined the people she loved in the place God has reserved for His special ones. I shall wear pink tomorrow as you celebrate her life of service in the Mass of Resurrection. Deepest sympathy. Anne
Dear Eddy, Cathy Ann, and family, Aunt Belle's words of 'Love everybody' are a poignant message she modelled in her life. Whether with family, friends or community, her gentle ways were always thoughtful and generous of heart - be it stopping in for a cup of tea, preparing flowers for the altar at Church so that someone's wedding/funeral/daily Mass was a little brighter, seeking out the quieter kids at school so they felt included, or telling stories about days gone by. She did small things with great love. I so wish we were home to truly celebrate Aunt Belle's life. Know that we are honouring her memory from afar. I'll wear purple tomorrow with great pride in honour of her. She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit and a quiet dignity. She is, and will be, missed for grief is the price we pay for love. Thinking of you and praying with gratitude for Aunt Belle's life well lived and well loved. xo Corinne and Andrew Corinne Walsh & Andrew Bartley

Cathy Ann and Eddy: Deepest sympathy from the Walsh family especially our parents Elaine and Bill on the passing of your mom. Mom and dad always considered your parents great friends especially back in the day. Your mom was such a nice lady and would always ask how mom was doing. I am passing on moms condolences as I know she would if she could, as well as from dad who thought so highly of your mom. Dementia is a horrible roller coaster of emotions, it saddens me to think these two great ladies had to both go down that same path. Our thoughts and prayers are with your families.
Hello Cathy Ann & Eddy. I was so sad to hear about your mother. She was such a lovely lady to talk to. I remember many wonderful conversations with your mother, her always pleasant smile, and her very positive outlook. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time, and I hope that you can find some comfort in the wonderful memories that you have.
